What it calculates
The Alvarado Score is a clinical scoring tool for suspected acute appendicitis. It combines symptoms, signs, and basic lab findings into a total score out of 10. It can help stratify patients into lower-, intermediate-, and higher-risk groups and may reduce unnecessary CT use when used with imaging and clinical judgment. AAFP notes that the Alvarado score, Pediatric Appendicitis Score, and AIR score can help diagnose appendicitis and reduce CT use.
