Swollen Leg
Assess urgently for DVT, cellulitis, acute limb ischaemia, heart failure/fluid overload, DVT with PE symptoms, and severe soft tissue or vascular pathology.

Red flags
- Unilateral painful swelling
- sudden onset swelling
- calf tenderness
- chest pain or breathlessness suggesting PE
First actions / assessment
- ABCDE first if unwell
- record full vitals and assess perfusion
- clarify whether swelling is unilateral or bilateral, painful or painless, sudden or progressive, and associated with redness, warmth, trauma, fever, dyspnoea, chest pain, immobility, recent surgery, travel, cancer, pregnancy/postpartum status, and previous DVT
