Assess urgently for meningococcal disease, sepsis, toxic shock, severe drug reaction, viral exanthem, and other serious infectious or inflammatory causes.

- Non-blanching or purpuric rash
- rapidly progressive rash
- toxic appearance
- haemodynamic instability or shock
First actions / assessment
- ABCDE first
- record full vitals, perfusion, mental status, hydration status, and capillary glucose if unwell
- determine whether the rash is blanching or non-blanching and examine the whole body including hidden areas
